Simple interest (SI) calculates interest only on the original principal amount, resulting in linear growth, while compound interest (CI) is calculated on reinvested interest amount, calculated on the principal plus accumulated interest, leading to exponential growth.
CI is better for savings, with CI providing higher returns over time, whereas SI is advantageous for borrowers.
